My New School
The new school is finally here. After 24 years of waiting the moment we were all counting down the seconds too has come.
On the 8th of November 2023 we moved schools. The Scoil an Athar Tadhg children were paraded up the streets of Carraig na bhFear by a bagpiper from our old school to our new one.
Before I go straight to the new school, I would like to talk a bit about the old school and all the joy and happiness it has brought us.
The old school was very un-sophisticated with its whiteboard projectors and small hall, but even if it was very “behind the times”, it still had lots of important visits including The Minister for Education, Norma Foley.
When we moved to the new school it was very exciting for both students and adults. The new school is a colossal building with a huge hall and bigger classrooms. It has 2 storeys and a lift for people who need it. It has new sensory and active rooms and 3 staircases. The corridors are long and large. We have a new bell and intercom and in each classroom there is an interactive whiteboard. We have 2 taps in our classrooms one drinking water and one not drinking water. Our windows have 3 panes, the top windows are opened by a lever on the windowsill. The bathrooms are much bigger than the bathrooms in our old school. There are automatic lights in the bathrooms and smart lights in the classrooms. As the day gets brighter, the smart lights get duller. They also turn on automatically and at the switch. There are plastic chairs and desks that have built in storage in our classrooms. There are 2 basketball courts, a yard and fake grass for the children to play on. Our caretaker`s shed is near the fake grass, this is where he keeps his tools. An Neidín is way more advanced in the new school with the 5 classes each having 3 sections to their classrooms, the classrooms, quiet spaces and storage rooms.
Thank you for reading, I hope you now know more about the new Scoil an Athar Tadhg than you did before you started.
