This year, the children from Ms Reen’s and Mr O Shea’s 6th class were working hard to prepare to participate in the National Children’s Choir. This initiative is a bi-annual school based choral experience and provides an opportunity for the children to develop their music literacy skills.
This year’s concert took place in the impressive location of Cork City Hall, on May 4th.
The children performed in a choir of 350 pupils with St Patrick's GNS, Gaelscoil Cionn tSáile, North Presentation Primary, Scoil Eoin Iniseonáin, Scoil Náisiúnta Bhiorainn Berrings agus Scoil Pádraig Naofa Whitechurch and joining them on stage along with a live 20 piece orchestra.
The children learned an extensive repertoire of 15 songs and performed a range of genres such as classical, pop and musical theatre. One of the highlights of the night was the beautiful melody of The Prayer and Cantar had everyone moving along to its melody! Some of the other repertoire included Mozart’s Laudate Dominum and Mary Had a Little Blues, with the concert finishing up with the show stopping Take a Chance on Me.
The concert closed with a well earned standing ovation, culminating in an experience the children will never forget!
