On the 11th of March 2020 the pupils and staff of Scoil an Athar Tadhg recorded a CD in aid of Marymount Hospice. Little did we think that the world would enter lockdown two days later. We were delighted to have the wonderfully talented Mick Flannery as guest on our CD. We thank him for driving from County Clare to sing with us.
With the arrival of Covid all plans for launching and selling the CD had to be put on hold. With Mick Flannery’s permission, aided by the talented videographer, Mr. Dave Lucy, we commenced an online donation page. Dave created a video to accompany Mick singing his song “How High” with the children. This aspect of our fundraising raised €10,525, a combination of online and offline donations.
Last year with the easing of covid restrictions, Cork hurler, Niall O’Leary kindly launched our CD. School sales commenced and then with the permission of management at Dunnes Stores, Ballyvolane and Ryan’s Supervalu in Glanmire, we commenced selling our CD at their stores.
This was our tenth CD since Mr. O’Brien and I undertook this project in 2011 in what we then believed to be ‘a one-off venture.’ The support of school management, staff, musicians, guest musicians, CD launch guests, adults and especially the children who helped with selling our CD’s made these projects possible.
We are delighted to be able to make a cheque presentation of twenty-eight thousand seven hundred and forty euro (€28,740) to Marymount Hospice. This is the total amount collected from the sales of this CD.
This presentation took place in school on Wednesday, March 8th at 2pm. We were delighted to welcome Chairperson of Board of Management, Oliver Manley and former principal Marc Sheehan.
Go raibh míle maith agaibh as an gcabhair.
